Tag Heuer launches gorgeous new Connected smartwatches

Tag Heuer has totally overhauled its smartwatch range with the Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4 – and brought a sleek new design to the party.

The Swiss watchmaker has launched a fantastic looking 42mm Tag Heuer Connected, and overhauled its 45mm model.

The 42mm model has no discernible bezel and integrated strap, which offers a radically different looking design to the previous model. It’s far more unisex – and better suited to those with smaller wrists.

The 42mm model features a 1.28-inch OLED display, with a 412x412 resolution at 326ppi.

The 45mm has also been tweaked, although is very much a continuation from the previous Tag Heuer Connected. The watch slopes inwards to reduce its profile on the wrist, and the pushers now have a mechanical feel.

In comparison the 45mm uses a 1.39-inch 454x454 resolution display, again at 326ppi.

Both are packed with sensors including heart rate, GPS, and the 45mm also includes an altimeter for the first time

Wear OS 3.0 incoming

The key question is whether these new Tag Heuer Connecteds will join the ranks of watches waiting for Wear 3.0 – and the good news is they will get a free upgrade whenever it lands.

They both run on Snapdragon Wear 4100+ technology, which enables the upgrade to Wear 3.0.

Tag Heuer says its 45mm Connected boasts 30% more battery life, but also lists both devices as having single day battery life, and worryingly, only 1 hour of GPS run tracking apiece. That’s quite low, and the idea your watch might be dead after a lunchtime run is something we’ll be looking closely at in our review.

However, fitness has been a focus of the Tag Heuer over the past couple of years, and it already has its own suite of fitness and wellness apps.

Tag Heuer has doubled down here again by bringing workout content and guided sessions to the new Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4 range.

Tag spent money on acquiring its Tag Heuer Golf app with excellent results, so this could be an worthwhile addition to the ecosystem.

It’s great to see Tag Heuer back in the smartwatch game, and it’s been a great addition to the Wear OS smartwatch clan since 2015. Of course, its watches play at a completely different price tag to most smartwatches, and one that most people will find ludicrous. The new Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4s will start at $1,800 and go on-sale in March.

But Tag Heuer has always demonstrated how smart tech can be blended with style and desirability – and these two watches show that hasn’t changed.
